La Danseuse is closely related to "Jeanine's Dream" from Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber's 1981 Going Nowhere Fast album (Rounder 3051), which matches elements of the tune with some really charming words --story of a girl who finds an old record in a trunk in the attic, and the tune eventually sets others dancing too

Hi. I have been exploring your wonderful blog and would like to say thank you for introducing me to a this fantastic world of old time music etc.

When playing back this selection of variations of "The Wagoners Lad" it dawned on me that there was a variation by Australian Ed Kuepper. He called the song Pretty Mary but the lyric and tune are familiar. This is well worth checking out for those interested.

I confess, I've never seen Charlie Poole referred to as a fiddler before. Is that a typo? Pretty sure most of his sides feature Posey Rorer on the fiddle. Great banjo player, yes; fiddler, don't believe so.

Phil Alvin (ex-Blasters) also did a 'Titanic' song on his great album "Un-'Sung' Stories" (Rounder, 1986?)
